Lent 2009 (24) – Some thoughts on grace

Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:5-6

Grace is the most important thing we need to know about God: that He shows undeserved love towards us. It was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us. God goes out of his way to save us from ourselves and our sin.

Grace means acting towards others with love in a way that goes beyond anything they might deserve. It is the characteristic of God. It was the characteristic of the life of Jesus and it should be the characteristic of his followers.

Paul instructs the Colossians to ensure that their conversation is always full of grace, seasoned with salt, especially when dealing those outside the faith. The world is desperately short of such grace!
