My Lent Words 28: Love me again

The perfectly ordinary word yada is translated ‘to know, recognise or understand’ and also used to mean an intimate sexual relationship as in ‘Adam knew his wife’ or in modern language

‘Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant…’ (Genesis 4:1)

“You are my witnesses,’ declares the Lord, ‘and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no God was formed nor will there be one after me.’’ (Isaiah 43:10)

God knows us very intimately.
