My Lent Words 13: But mostly I am foolish

There are several Hebrew words for fool but they all carry the idea of moral stupidity; the opposite of wisdom. It is the inability to see the consequences of my actions or simply being stubborn.

‘Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.’ (Psalm 107:17)

‘The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment.’ (Proverbs 10:21)

‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.’ (Proverbs 1:7)

‘May my lord pay no attention to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name – his name is Fool, and folly goes with him.’ (1 Samuel 25:25)

Oh dear!
