Did you always open Windows Task Manager in Windows XP using Alt + Ctrl + Del ? After moving to Windows Vista and Windows 7 you are taken to a screen where you have options like "Lock this computer", "Switch User", "Log Off", "Change Password", and "Start Task Manager.
So in Vista or Windows 7 , just use Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager directly!
